Will Addiction Detox Centers Give Me Referrals for Outpatient Counseling?

When it comes to treating a drug or alcohol addiction, there’s a process that needs to be adhered to for the best possible results. The best possible results would include having each and every client leave rehab with a recovery that lasts their entire lifetimes. Of course, that’s not likely to happen all the time, but it’s certainly a worthy goal.

Since it’s a process, the first step almost always has to be helping clients deal with their withdrawal issues. If a client doesn’t get ample opportunity to clear withdrawal and any residual cravings they might have, it’s going to be difficult for them to get through therapy. That doesn’t serve anyone well.

The preferred method for helping clients through the detox process is placing them in licensed detox programs. In said programs, clients get the opportunity to work with medical staffers who will be monitoring each client’s progress through withdrawal. It’s worth mentioning that most dedicated detox facilities work closely with clients to help them detox without medical assistance. They do so because it’s far healthier for a client to detox on their own with only nutrition and exercise intervention. Unfortunately, things don’t often go as planned.

The alternative is to have the medical staff standing by with the option to offer relief medications to clients who show signs of detox distress. While it might seem strange that a doctor would prescribe pain medication for a client who has a drug addiction, it’s sometimes necessary. Why? Some withdrawal symptoms can get severe enough as to put a client’s health in real jeopardy. If medical intervention has the ability to keep that from happening, it’s sometimes the only option.

After detox, most clients will need to start therapy. If a client detoxes in a dedicated detox only facility, they might need help resolving where to get further treatment in the form of therapy. Please read on for more on this topic.

Will Addiction Detox Centers Give Me Referrals for Outpatient Counseling?

While dedicated detox only facilities won’t typically be equipped to provide clients with the therapy they need, it’s not an indication they won’t get involved in the treatment process. In fact, it’s highly likely that the detox facility you are leaving will be willing and able to refer you to a particular addiction treatment center. In all likelihood, the detox facility will have two options.

First, they might have some sort of affiliation with an addiction treatment provider or providers in the area. These types of affiliations are formed for both financial reasons and to enable clients to benefit from some level of continuity of care.

If affiliated rehabs don’t have the right treatment options or resources for a given client, most detox facilities will step forward and make calls to other resources on the client’s behalf. The point is the detox facility’s staff members are motivated to help clients get through the entire treatment process successfully.

As for referring you specifically for outpatient care, that will depend on the detox facility staff’s assessment of your situation. Here’s a few compelling reasons why they might advocate on your part for outpatient care:

  • They understand you have limited payment resources
  • They understand you have financial responsibilities to the family
  • They understand you have work or school obligations that won’t permit you to miss time

Financial Resource Issues

If you don’t have healthcare insurance, the cost of residential care might be prohibitive. As advocates for your welfare, the detox facility’s staff would certainly understand that financially, you could only afford outpatient care.

Financial Responsibilities to Family

If you are your family’s primary breadwinner, a month or two in residential treatment could affect your family’s ability to meet its financial obligations like rent/mortgage, utilities, food and car payments. If such is the case, outpatient care would be your best option.

Work or School Responsibilities

Neither your boss nor teacher is likely to put your responsibilities aside long enough for you to complete treatment. At work, it’s possible you might get cooperation if others can cover your responsibilities. If that’s not possible, you would need an outpatient program you can work around your work or school schedule.

To be clear, a full-service addiction treatment center would be your best option. That’s something we would be able to offer you. If you would like additional information about our outpatient treatment options, you can pick up the phone and call us at 844-639-8371.
